Lily Study continues the artist’s investigation of the gaze through a black-and-white Polaroid image of a single flower. Isolated against a dark ground, the lily’s pale petals compress into a compact, sculptural form that approaches abstraction. The softened focus and restrained tonal range shift attention from botanical description to questions of framing, surface, and how bodies and objects are constructed through acts of looking.
